Hydrogen-bonded supramolecular assemblies of folic acid with simple hexoses

Simple D-hexoses such as D-glucose, D-mannose, and D-galactose were found to form supramolecular complexes with folic acid (FA) in phosphate-buffered saline solution (PBS, pH 7.4) the gas phase. Pterin subunit of FA was be essential for molecular assembly hexoses, whereas PABA (p-amino benzoic acid) GLN (glutamic subunits have virtually no effect on formation. Experimental measurements along DFT theoretical calculations reveal that hexose-FA assemblies are stabilized by three complementary hydrogen bonds between pterin 3,4,6-trihydroxyl moiety hexose.
